- Living with a 41-megapixel 808 PureView: Symbian's heroic last stand. Last year Nokia released to the world a mobile phone that is still unique. It's a smartphone with a 41-megapixel camera sensor, scooping up more detail than some professional DSLRs: it's the 808 PureView. When I say 'released', that’s a little misleading.
- Let’s go through some of the inputs and outputs of the Nokia 808 PureView in more detail. Together with your data connection, the WiFi connection, whether at home or a public network, is the gateway through which your 808 PureView will be able to surf the Internet, check emails, download apps and keep an eye on your social.
Nokia announced the 808 PureView at Mobile World Congress in 2012. It was their last phone released running Symbian. The 808 PureView featured the most advanced camera in the history of smartphones. It featured a 41-megapixel sensor with lossless zoom. An industry first. Many wondered when that camera technology would end up in a device running Windows Phone. That happened in July 2013 when Nokia announced and released the Lumia 1020.

The Lumia 1020 is a Windows Phone 8 smartphone made by Nokia. It was unveiled on July 11th, 2013 at a press event in New York. It went on sale later that month on AT&T in the United States as a carrier exclusive. Over the next few months it would appear on other carriers in other markets.
Nokia’s Lumia 1020 is notable for its camera. What Nokia learned from the 808 PureView was applied to the Lumia 1020. In the Lumia 1020 you’ll find a 41-megapixel image sensor with high performance Carl Zeiss optics. The sheer number of pixels enables Nokia to oversample and obtain lossless zoom. The Lumia 1020 also has best-in-class low light performance. Nokia later updated the Lumia 1020 to capture and save images in the RAW camera format for better post-processing in applications like Adobe Lightroom.
The Lumia 1020 also saw the introduction of Nokia Pro Camera, a new imaging application for Lumia devices. It was later renamed and simplified to just Nokia Camera. The application allows users greater control over the settings. Flash, white balance, focus, ISO, shutter speed and exposure compensation can all be manually adjusted using the application.
Besides the amazing camera, you’ll find the specs of the Lumia 1020 to be similar to those of the Lumia 920. The Lumia 1020 also borrows heavily from the design language of the Lumia 920, minus the large camera hump for the optics and imaging technology.
The Lumia 1020 remains a very niche smartphone. Its camera is the standout feature, but even that will only appeal to professional photographers and serious camera enthusiasts. The Lumia 1020 is expected to go down as an iconic smartphone and Windows Phone.
During its development, the Lumia 1020 went by the codename 'EOS'.

By theregister.co.uk on 80So what's the bottom line here? I have to say that despite its photographic excellence as a phonecam, I will not be rushing to trade in my iPhone nor my camera for a Nokia 808 PureView just yet. The camera and the PureView technology are very...

70If you’re a fan of Symbian, you’ll probably not mind its odd quirks and clunkiness, but the dearth of decent apps is a real issue. However, no one can deny that the 808 Pureview’s 41-megapixel snapper beats any of its rivals hands down...
